Your presentation without these 3 basics is sinking before it even leaves the dock.

Presenting, whether it’s on a stage, a webinar, or a conference call, can literally make or break your pitch.

If you’ve got flat energy, slides that feel like a lecture, or a delivery that drones on, trust me, nobody’s sticking around.

The way you present is what adds that oomph. It’s what makes people lean in, feel something, and actually say yes.

So today, I want to give you 3 brutal truths about presenting that you need to hear. Because if you don’t fix these, your message is dead before it even begins.

  1. Nobody cares about you. They care about what’s in it for them.

Most people start their presentations like this- “Hey everyone, I’m so excited to be here. Let me tell you a little bit about myself…”Blah. Blah. Blah.

By then, you’ve already lost your audience. In reality, you just have about 10 seconds to hook them.

Instead of rambling on about yourself, try-“Ever felt like you’re talking but nobody’s listening? That’s because your presentation is broken. Let me show you how to fix it.”

That grabs attention. It sparks curiosity. And it instantly makes people want to hear more.

  1. Your energy sets the room’s energy

If your energy’s down, the room’s energy is down.

If you’re flat, nervous, and monotone, your audience absorbs that and tunes out. But if you’re dynamic, energetic & unpredictable, they lean in.

Match your energy to your message. If you’re talking about excitement, urgency, transformation, show it. If you’re talking about pain, struggle, tension, slow it down and let them feel it.

Something like this:

“My bank account was dropping day after day. I woke up each morning with this pit in my stomach, knowing I had less time, fewer options, and no real plan.

Then one morning, I saw a notice on my phone that literally made me throw up.

I had to tell my wife the truth.

I walked through the door, cotton-mouthed and sweaty. Before I even spoke, she knew.

I told her… we’re 30 days from losing our house. And that’s when the light left her eyes.

I knew I had to do something.”

That’s presence. That’s how you pull people in.

  1. Tension keeps attention

The best presentations aren’t lectures. They’re pretty much like a Netflix series, they keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you’re just dumping facts, you’re losing people. Every story, every idea needs a twist, a cliffhanger, a “what happens next?” Add open loops & surprises.

Instead of “Here’s what I’m going to tell you today…”

Try,“There’s one mistake almost every presenter makes, and it’s killing your results. I’ll tell you what it is in a second. But first…”

That’s tension. That’s what keeps people hooked.

If your presentation isn’t:

  1. Grabbing attention in the first 10 seconds
  2. Bringing real energy
  3. Building tension that makes them want more

…you’re wasting your time.

So here’s your challenge: go back to your last presentation. Did you hit all three? If not, time to fix it.
