Writing a book had been on my mind for years.
I’d start… then stop. Jot down ideas… then doubt them. Tell myself I’d “get to it” later… then months would go by.
If you’ve ever felt like that, like you want to write a book but the idea just feels too big or too complicated, I get it. That was me. Until I joined a program by my good friend and brilliant coach, Shaa Wasmund.
And in 90 days, I had a finished manuscript, real momentum, and a book I was proud of.
Before I get into what finally worked for me, let’s first cover:
What actually stops us from writing a book
Shaa and I spoke about this in a recent interview (full video at the end of this post), and what she said felt too close to home.
Most entrepreneurs don’t write a book because they believe:
1. They don’t have time.
2. Someone’s already written about this.
3. They have no idea how to make it actually help their business.
Does any of this sound like you? It surely did for me!
What I learned from Shaa is that the problem isn’t the writing. It’s the lack of structure, no plan, no direction, no path.
Once I had her framework, everything changed. I didn’t have to figure out how to get from blank page to published. I just had to follow the steps.
The Framework That Got Me Writing, It Might Just Help You Too
Shaa’s method flips the usual advice on its head. You don’t start by writing. You start by asking:
What do I want this book to *do* for my business?”
Is it about lead generation? Authority? Raising your prices? Getting podcast invites? Once that’s clear, then you reverse engineer the content.
She calls it “color-by-number” for books, and that’s exactly what it felt like.
I didn’t have to stress over how much to write or where to begin. I just followed the framework. And yes, I was blown away by how fast the words added up.
The Golden Mantra Books > Social Media
Why… Because you can’t remember what you saw on social media yesterday. But you remember the books that changed your life.
And it most definitely is true.
We spend so much time creating content that disappears in 24 hours. But a book, it sticks. It sits on someone’s shelf. It positions you as the expert. And it opens doors, you know the usual schabang!
-
- Podcast interviews
-
- Speaking gigs
-
- Media features
-
- Higher-ticket clients
Most of the podcast guests you hear today have written a book. That couldn’t be a coincidence.
What About Publishing?
Like many people, I thought the goal was to land a big publisher. But Shaa helped me rethink that, too.
Yes, her program gives you a chance to pitch to major publishers (like Penguin, Hay House, etc.). But most of us don’t need to wait for that. In fact, self-publishing or hybrid publishing gets you:
-
- Full control over your timeline
-
- Higher royalties
-
- All the data and leads
-
- A book in your hands in 90 days, not 18 months
You can still go to a big publisher later. But in the meantime, your book can continue to work for your business.
And It Actually Works
We used my book to generate leads. To build a funnel. To increase conversions. To drive traffic to a launch.
Some chapters became lead magnets. Others built authority with cold traffic. It gave me content for emails, reels, podcasts, you name it.
Why I’m Sharing This With You
If you’ve ever had ‘write a book’ sitting on your to-do list for months or years, you’re not alone.
Most people never get past the idea stage. They think they need more time, a bigger platform, or a fancy publisher’s permission slip.
But with the right plan, you can go from blank page to printed book in just 90 days, even with a busy business, family, and life.
I did it. I’m already working on my next one. And soon, we’ll show you how you can do it too.
Shaa’s hosting a live book writing workshop on 30th July, where you’ll get all the details. Trust me, you’ll want to be there.
